Guiseley host title rivals Brackley Town in the first round of the FA Trophy on Saturday when victory could also give them a psychological edge in their promotion scrap.

The visitors to Nethermoor are currently top of the Blue Square Bet North, with the Lions just two points behind in third spot.

The sides have still to play each other twice in the league and Guiseley boss Steve Kittrick said: “It will be interesting, a very interesting game.

“It is an opportunity for us to have a look at each other.

“They are top of our league and the points and table don’t lie, so they are a very good side.

“It could be a pointer with the clubs yet to play each other home and away in the league but we have to take it as a one-off cup tie and treat it for the game that it is.

“We should have virtually a full squad to pick from, which is all we can hope for in front of a big game like this.”

It was thought midfielder Jack Rea might have broken his finger in Tuesday’s 3-3 home draw against promotion hopefuls Worcester City but those fears wereunfounded.

Kittrick said: “Jack had to come off in the first half but we expect him to be all right.”

Skipper Mark Bower, who was sent off late in that game, is battling a hamstring injury, however. Kittrick added: “Mark tweaked a hamstring so we will leave a decision on him as long as we can but there are no other injuries affecting the squad.”

Bower will be suspended for three matches and team-mate Danny Boshell, who was also sent off against Worcester, for two games but the bans do not kick in straight away.

Kittrick was left fuming at referee Graham Fyvie after Tuesday’s game, which saw Worcester come back from 3-0 down to claim a point against nine-man Guiseley.

He said: “The decisions of the referee were massive.

“At half-time we were 2-0 up and there wasn’t any way that I could see them coming back.”

Kittrick had a long discussion with referee Fyvie afterwards and told him: “You have killed us. The decisions you have made tonight could cost us the league.”
