Bradford Park Avenue head to Cumbria on Saturday looking for a win that would take them back into the play-off places in Blue Square Bet North.

Victory at Workington could see the seventh-placed Horsfall club leap as high as fourth if results go their way, with some of their promotion rivals also in FA Trophy action.

Avenue returned to winning ways with a 4-0 home victory over basement outfit Hinckley United following three defeats in different competitions.

Boss John Deacey expects Saturday’s trip to provide a much sterner test against a side just four points behind them.

“It will be a hard game up at Workington and we have to go there with the right attitude,” said Deacey.

“It was good to get back on track with three points at home on Monday but that was a different game and we have a fresh challenge now.”

Avenue have adapted well to life in the higher tier after promotion last season but Deacey wants to keep expectations in check.

He said: “Someone told me we will be in a play-off spot if we win but, to be honest, anything above halfway in the table is a bonus for us because we are new to the league.”

There are a couple of injury concerns and the manager is hoping to secure two new signings in time for them to be involved at Workington.

Deacey said: “I have been chasing a centre back and a striker and I might get them in before the weekend but we are still waiting for now.

“Unless we get them we will be going up there with 15 or 16 in the squad because that’s all the players we have at the minute.

“I hope something happens sooner rather than later regarding players coming in.

“We’ve done okay so far, better than I had hoped, but we need to strengthen because this a tough league with a lot of established clubs.”

The two injury worries are midfielder Jordan Deacey and the versatile Richard Marshall. Both are struggling with ankle problems.

Jamie Jackson and Ross Daly, who are both on the comeback trail following long-term injuries, have been sent out on loan.
