Four Bradford amateur footballers are a step closer to winning a professional playing contract with League One side Swindon Town or Leyton Orient.

More than 5,000 players from all over the country entered Samsung’s Win A Pro Contract competition and the quartet are through to the quarter-final stage.

They are centre-back Mykie Rayner, 19, of Cleckheaton, winger Dale Feather, 19, of Denholme, winger Kayden Jackson, 18, of Bradford and midfielder Irfan Khan, 20, of Bradford.

Eighty eight players remain after impressing scouts at regional trials.

Mykie, who has played in the Academies of Manchester City and Blackburn Rovers, said: “I couldn’t believe it when I found out I’d made it through to the next round.

“I’ve had bad luck with injuries but this could be my chance to get back into the game.

“I can’t wait to show my skills in the next round. To win a professional contract would be a dream come true.”

Kayden said: “I was shocked to find out I’d progressed but I’m really pleased.

“I’ve been on trial with a few clubs and spent pre-season with Leeds United and Blackburn Rovers in the past.

“Winning a pro contract would give me the chance to play top-level football full-time.”

They will now play in an 11-a-side match at Hyde FC on Sunday November 11.

Swindon Town manager Paolo Di Canio, who will pick one player to join his squad in January 2013, said: “Everyone has worked hard to make it this far in the competition. But there is still a long way to go.

“The players must demonstrate that they have what it takes to play professional football. It is a big step but I’m sure we will find a player who is capable.”

The 88 players are battling it out to be among the 11 players selected for the Final in December.
