Goalkeeper Alex Stephenson starred for Peel Park as his Bradford Sunday Alliance League team saw off Wakefield visitors Alverthorpe 2-0 in the second round of the West Riding County FA Sunday Cup.

Stephenson produced a string of fantastic saves as the Division One side beat their well-organised opponents courtesy of two goals from Alan Morley junior.

Premier Division high-fliers West Bowling, who have played in the final for the last three seasons and won the competition twice, eased through to the third round 11-2 at the expense of Halifax side Lee Mount.

Philip Brogden hit a hat-trick and Chris Hanney added a brace as the Bradford hosts stepped on the gas after leading 4-0 at half-time.

Thornton United edged out visiting Maine Line by the odd goal in five, with Ryan Canning putting the hosts in front only for the visitors to equalise before the interval.

Dave Wilson and Deroy White then gave the Bradford team a two-goal cushion before Maine Line scored again to give United a nervy last ten minutes.

One of the best results came for New Inn Celtic, who travelled to take on Heavy Woollen Premier Division side Pack Horse and beat their Cleckheaton hosts 4-2 as Cameron Canning scored all four goals.

Sandy Lane won 4-1 at George Hotel, with a similar all-Alliance League clash seeing Stanningley Albion just get the better of Thornbury Celtic 3-2. Adam Jarrett struck at the double for the winners, with Tom Jarman also on the mark.

Grass Greener United conceded a last-minute goal at Milford to bow out of the West Riding County FA Sunday Trophy 3-2.

Mark Burnham and Richard Keighley had scored for the defeated Bradford team.

Delius had no such problems, going through after a 3-1 win at Armley Conservative Club thanks to strikes from Dan Buck, Chris Neesham and Colin Clayton.
