Wakefield's Chris Annakin has been banned for five matches

Wakefield Trinity Wildcats forward Chris Annakin has been served with a five-match ban by the Rugby Football League.

Annakin was charged with a dangerous throw in his side’s loss to Warrington on Sunday and was given his punishment tonight.

His ban means coach Richard Agar will not be able to call on him for the crucial relegation scrap with Bradford Bulls on Sunday. He will also sit out meetings with London, Wigan, Hull and Leeds.

Warrington forward Ben Westwood was also charged with the same offence and he has been given a three-match ban.

That means the England international will miss this weekend’s eagerly-anticipated clash with leaders Leeds.

Earlier today, the RFL announced that Widnes winger Paddy Flynn had been banned for two matches for punching.

Flynn submitted an early guilty plea after being charged with the grade C offence by the RFL following a fight with Castleford’s Justin Carney.

Both players were sent to the sin bin after the confrontation in the 57th minute of the Tigers’ 34-22 First Utility Super League win over the Vikings on Sunday.

Flynn will now miss the Vikings’ next two games against Catalan Dragons in Super League on Friday and Keighley in the Challenge Cup quarter-finals the following week.

Carney also received a two-match ban when he went before the RFL.

The winger, dubbed as 'the tank on the flank', was suspended on three separate occasions last season and has been warned once during this campaign.

Noticed the Cats made a loan signing of Lee Gilmore yesterday, will enable them to rotate players and cover the missing Annakin at prop....wonder how many they have in their squad now...be interesting to see their salary cap figures....COYB...

You really think that the salary cap makes a difference in the game anymore? look at Salford, Leeds and Wigan; they all have massive well paid squads. It has become a paper exercise that the RFL are willing to turn a blind eye to as it improves Sky's product and lets make no mistake Sky Sports is the one pulling the strings up at Redhall,
