Woodhall Hills off to flier in Bradford opener
Woodhall Hills are hoping double success at the first Bradford Union competition of the season is a sign of things to come.
Jack Torbett and Chris Dunn clinched the main award with a four-under par 66 to finish one shot clear of Baildon’s Richard Buck and Ian Martin.
And Jack Mills and Matthew Benson made it a double by taking the nett prize with a 63, a score which also left them fourth on the gross list.
Captain Mark Lawman said: “We are absolutely thrilled about how we have started the season.”
Lawman is now hoping his club can take their form into the Bradford Union Scratch League, which gets underway tomorrow.
Woodhall earned promotion to the top flight last season and the skipper believes they can hold their own with the union’s elite clubs.
He said: “We have a good standard of players and we are quietly confident we can perform well.”
Hills sit out the first round of matches and start their campaign at home to Skipton the following week.
Tomorrow’s openers see reigning champions Bingley St Ives head to Baildon in a heavyweight clash, while Skipton host Cleckheaton and South Bradford make their top-flight bow at Shipley after winning Division Two last season.
Meanwhile, lady members at Woodhall Hills are also celebrating after they won the Evening League Trophy at Shipley. Cath Roberts, Julie Lawman, Caroline Townsley and Alex Townsley were the successful players.
