SIR - It really has to be asked why Bradford Council considered it acceptable to allow Persimmon Homes to reduce its community contribution by £310,000 in connection with its controversial proposal to build over 200 houses in Thackley (T&A, June 22).
This company can afford to pay Chief Executive Jeff Fairburn a bonus of £75m, and this only due to an outcry about the original figure of £110m. Can anyone really believe that it could not afford to pay this £310,000 and still make a healthy profit on the development?
One has to wonder why Bradford Council felt it necessary to kowtow to Persimmon Homes rather than simply saying no.
We then read in the same paper that the Council has agreed to allow an industrial park to be built on a flood plain in Keighley against the advice of the Environment Agency, and of national policies.
Just what sort of Council do we have running the city's affairs? The more we see, the more many will despair at the decisions that are being taken.
