SIR - I've followed the T&A's extensive coverage on Shipley Labour Party's so-called campaign to try and stop the closure of Santander bank in Baildon with increasing incredulity. They know full well that this isn't a consultation on closure but a decision taken by the bank following their own review. Although we are all disappointed they have decided to close Baildon's last bank the decision has been taken and Santander's Community Engagement department have confirmed that "we are committed to closing the branch in Baildon on 27 September". No amount of placard waving and signature gathering will alter that fact and it is totally disingenuous to give residents and businesses false hope that this decision could possibly be reversed.
As a ward councillor I contacted Santander back in April when we were notified of their intentions to express my disappointment with their decision and to seek reassurance that both current and business account customers would be able to use our local post offices for the majority of transactions.
Instead of engaging in the worst kind of political campaigning why didn't the local Labour party speak out against Bradford Council's decision to scrap the free hour of parking in the centre of Baildon?
Cllr Debbie Davies (Conservative, Baildon ward), Hartlington Court, Baildon
