SIR - Further to Patricia Ellis' letter, Stuart McCall's ability to sustain Bradford City's promotion challenge for a second year was severely compromised with the loss of key players such as Rory McArdle, James Meredith and Mark Marshall, (T&A, May 16).

Ironically, City were still in a play-off position at the time of McCall's dismissal, following a poor run of form, and improved only slightly under Simon Grayson.

In contrast, Millwall failed to gain promotion in a play-off final in 2016, but were able to retain most of their first team for the following year. Despite this, they struggled to gain a play-off place for the second successive year, only achieving it on the final day of the season.

However, Millwall kept faith with their manager, Neil Harris, who enjoys the same legendary status at his club as Stuart McCall does at City. Harris lead Millwall to a play-off victory over City and achieved remarkable success in the second tier this season.

Unfortunately, where Millwall have made vast strides, City have lost ground, after five years of continued progress. It's a pity City hadn't followed the inspired example of the Wall!
