SIR - The Interchange is to be given a face-lift, along with Forster Square. Money to be wasted when we now learn of a through line under the city centre towards Canal Road corridor.

Have we not got a plan of this route? Whereabouts will this tunnel begin near the present Interchange and where will it emerge along Canal Road?

I believe there is an 18ft difference between the two stations. A viaduct around the law courts (not under it) to gradually drop down towards Canal Road near Frizinghall station. After all, from Bowling tunnel to the Interchange is a long slope.

Today's trains still have to climb, using more fuel. A tunnel will be sloping, to get underground and slope again to emerge along Canal Road.

This crazy city and its councillors have no ideas at all. As for this HS3 train line, I really couldn't give a toot if it's built or not. The opening day is to be around 2030. I won't be around to see this, nor will many others my age.

All this talking about it, I say shut up and get on with building tomorrow.
