SIR - When Bradford Council is closing all its public conveniences apart from one at City Park then something is sadly wrong with its sense of priorities.
We are now given to understand that a substantial sum, perhaps around £250K, is expended on “facility time” for union representatives. This is effectively subsiding trade unions by providing time off for staff to perform union duties.
But should we not, as ratepayers, expect those staff to undertake the Council work for which they are paid? Any union time should surely be paid by the unions concerned.
Perhaps Labour Council leader Susan Hinchcliffe could tell us all the current cost of “facility time” in Bradford, and what she is doing to substantially reduce it or, even better, to fully do away with it. Perhaps then we could have our toilet facilities back.
