SIR – Jeremy Corbyn is the leader of the party I support. In my letter (T&A, September 23) I simply pointed out that it was a mistake for him not to have sung the National Anthem at the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Britain.

However he claims he kept silent as a mark of respect.

That’s as may be but it won’t have gone down well with the majority of people who voted for the retention of the monarchy.

Alex Suchi (Letters, T&A,September 26) said that Mr Corbyn’s attendance at the event and his respectful silence should make him immune from all criticism but as former US Defence Secretary Donald Rumsfield once said: “If you are not criticised, you may not be doing much!”

Of course, being a republican Mr Corbyn might not have known the words to the anthem, you never know.
