SIR – Is Bradford missing a great opportunity to regenerate? The building of the Westfield Centre was a great incentive for the council to push forward the importance of this event in the city’s regeneration.
Offers of cheaper rent and rates on empty properties so the entire city centre would be alive and prospering at the time the Westfield Centre opened would have been a great move.
It seems to me that the council are relying on the Westfield Centre to cure all their ills. The Westfield Centre probably occupies less than 10 per cent of the city’s retail area.
How long will the Westfield Centre survive if the other 90 per cent of the city centre continues to become more derelict? It isn’t too late, however. Act now and consider the worth of the rest of the city centre before it is too late.
