SIR – I am often accused of a bias towards the left in political terms and in general that’s probably correct.

However, at the moment we seem to be lacking politicians with any real passion for their political beliefs.

On the one hand we have the Tories who, while capable of unbelievable unilateral loyalty to big business, are at the drop of a hat ready to blatantly bribe the electorate with promises of tax cuts and pennies off their favourite tipple.

Then we have Labour who, while showing their teeth with the mansion tax and upping the tax rates on big earners, are more than willing to continue the Tories’ austerity.

I would have more respect for the Camerons and Osbornes of this world if they would be more up front in their aims, rather than trying to con the electorate with over-optimistic statistics, and likewise with Miliband if he would be true to his socialist beliefs, but honestly tell people that perhaps they will need to pay a little more to retain the NHS.

My vote will go to the party that believes in a fairer society, but even they need to up their game if they are to retain any respect.
