SIR – With reference to the driving ban of 28 days imposed on the driver caught doing 107 mph on the Bingley bypass – and his subsequent attempt to then drive home from court – may I say that the ban was not long enough in the first place.

I live in Bingley and use the bypass and I do not want someone doing a stupid speed anywhere near me and mine. The man is a menace, as is anyone else driving like they own the road.

That the gentleman in question tried to drive home in defiance of the court ruling is nothing more than contempt for the law and the magistrate.

A miserly ban of 28 days clearly made no impression on Mr Khan, and probably led him to believe his offence was not serious. Perhaps if the next ban he gets is for, say, five years, it might attract his attention. As would the crushing of his car – just to remind him that he is banned.
