SIR – UK residents who become centenarians receive a congratulatory card from the monarch and another for each year they live thereafter.
Many already have, but experts say that by 2050 there could be thousands. And who knows what age homo sapiens will reach in future centuries? Methuselah is supposed to have lived 969 years.
I don’t know how much this tradition costs the taxpayer, but it should be nipped in the bud, so to speak, before it gets out of hand.
