SIR – I suppose what surprises me most about Morrisons relocating their payroll department to India, is that people are surprised. We are, I assume, talking about the same ‘good old local’ Morrisons that so strongly objected to Tesco redeveloping Odsal Stadium (and environs) that Bradford Council took the side of ‘good old local’ Morrisons and the idea was shelved.
What difference a new stadium would have made to Bradford Bulls’ subsequent fortunes, we will never know.
Morrisons have played the ‘good old local’ card a bit too often for my liking, and the truth is that senior decision-makers in Morrisons are as in tune with the people of Bradford as David Cameron is in tune with George Galloway .
For myself, I have never been surprised at the lengths to which capitalists will go to turn a dollar.
I do feel sorry for the remaining staff of Morrisons though, chasing their (inevitable) pay queries through an Indian call centre (will it be a premium rate call, I wonder?).
