SIR – I am fortunate to live in a housing complex that was built for, and is occupied by people over a certain age. One of the benefits we have is having an alcove right outside our back door for our wheelie bin. We have now been informed that due to new ‘legislation’, we can no longer keep our bins there.
The bins will now be kept in ‘designated areas’ further up the street. So now, instead of opening the door and putting rubbish in the bin, we will have to don shoes and coat, and carry the rubbish 20 yards or more.
Some of our residents are in their 80s and 90s, with some only walking with difficulty aided by a stick or zimmer frame. Other residents in second-floor flats will also have to negotiate 15 stone steps, too. How will they cope? In the winter when there is frost, ice or snow on the ground, there will inevitably be accidents.
Our street will be an eyesore with grass verges dug up to accommodate fenced-off bin areas.
Is this ‘legislation’ just for our complex, just for Bradford, or for the whole nation? Can someone name those responsible, so that we will know who to sue?
