SIR – I have gleaned from a reliable source – not Scottish messrs Salmond, Darling or Galloway, who never replied to my questions on a future referendum on Scotland’s independence – that only residents, irrespective of their true nationality, will be able to vote.
I do not know how many English, Welsh, Irish or East European residents there are north of the border or just how many Scots are resident in England, Ireland, Wales or the EU, but surely there must be sufficient to render the result of any referendum meaningless.
No wonder the three Scots were unwilling to impart any information to me.
