SIR – What a silly letter from republican Kevin Wilson (Letters, August 13). When the Queen, as Princess Elizabeth, joined the ATS, it was of her own volition.
As for his childish remark that other members of HM forces could take it in turns to be Queen, well if this epitomises the intelligence of the republican ilk, then thank goodness there is little chance of them having their way.
The rest of us do not do a good job of electing a PM via his party. The role of a non-political head of state is instilled in the royals from birth and the way our Queen’s children have let her down is just a sign of the current morality of Western civilisation.
