SIR – Mr Tordoff said he bought vital products from his corner shop (Letters, August 8). Good on him! But no doubt he pays more for his milk there than he would at Asda because, quite rightly, the shopkeeper has to earn a living just as Asda has to make profits for it shareholders, some – if not many – of whom will be pension providers.

I do not think, though, that the dairy farmer will get any more for his milk that way and they certainly deserve and need to earn a living wage out of their milk sales.
