SIR – Having stood on the terraces at Odsal for the past 27 years, I am confident that professional rugby league will continue to be played in Bradford for many years to come.

I have been overwhelmed at the pride, passion and enthusiasm shown by the fans, young and old, during this disastrous period in the club’s history – and it is this spirit that will ensure the game's survival.

I have been equally underwhelmed by the deafening silence of the city’s politicians over the past few months – we’ve hard nothing from them. Then again, the club has hardly covered itself in glory when it comes to communicating with the fans But we must learn the lessons of the past. Whoever is to blame is irrelevant.

We were a once great club – and that was largely due to the fact that Peter Deakin actually knew a thing or two about business as well as sport. His marketing machine was phenomenal and provided the foundations for great and happy times.

I will never forget that floodlit Friday night when we jumped for joy and grown men hugged after the Bulls slipped over a drop goal in the dying seconds of the game to snatch victory from our arch-rivals Leeds!

Oh, to taste that sweet victory again, rather than the bitter taste left in our mouths today.
