SIR – Godfrey Bloom, a UKIP colleague and MEP always has something interesting to add to your pages (Letters, April 28) but I am not sure I agree with him about England teams’ abandoning the national anthem at sporting events.

England is the major country and houses the head of state and the national Government of the UK and I, personally, feel it should not be dropped in favour of an English hymn. If there were to be a change, I should suggest either Jerusalem or This England, both appropriate for obvious reasons.
