SIR – With respect, I would like to reply to Mrs Higgins (T&A, April 11). This lady seems to have got her facts all wrong.

1. We didn’t ask the general public to pledge any money – we asked the fans to try and keep the club afloat. This was kept within the rugby league family. The fans had two options – to pledge or not to pledge. This money was raised with help from not only our players but ex-players who contributed their medals to be auctioned to fans from other clubs.

2. Mrs Higgins refers to football teams struggling. We are not a football team, we are a rugby league team – there’s a vast difference. Our players don’t earn thousands of pounds per week; we are only allowed to spend a certain amount of money on players’ wages.

3. You refer to places being closed down. Bradford Bulls haven’t closed them down; other powers have done that. The Bulls contribute regularly to charities. Players give up their days off to visit these places you mention.

Fortunately fans of both Bradford and other clubs rallied round. One ex-player came in on crutches to man the phones.

Also, I don’t get paid for the title below.
