SIR – I heartily agree with Councillor Dale Smith’s views for rejecting the office of elected mayor in Bradford (Letters, April 13). Politics aside, can we, as funders of the punitive council tax, really afford to finance the office of a city mayor, a deputy mayor, their respective wives’ clothing allowance, their prestige vehicles, all their entourage, PR personnel and office staff, not to mention dining out and tours abroad. Before referendum day, I would like city hall to give us a broad estimate of the annual cost. We have a right to know as we will be footing the bill.
