SIR – A popular theme at present appears to be criticism of political parties, and the need for a better way of running this country.

1) Most policies are short-term, designed to quell media criticism and appeal to gullible voters.

2) Usually, the political party interests come first, the MPs next, and the country lags behind.

3) The UK is being destroyed by a mixture of statism (too much Government and bureaucracy), political correctness, self-interest, and an electoral system hijacked by political parties.

4) Any MP seeking promotion has to follow the party line, even if they don’t agree. Look what happens to anyone who protests; rapid demotion or “moved sideways”.

5) Not enough continuity in top ministerial posts.

The last Labour Government changed their ministers like changing their shirts.
