SIR – In his letter “A historic route that is worth protecting” (T&A, April 11), Frank Dickenson wonders if any member of the Green Party has visited the Buck Lane site. I visited this peaceful green site only last Sunday afternoon.

The Green Party has been following the proposals for Buck Lane very closely. We think it is an issue of great significance, but not one that necessarily divides parties, although in your own columns you have published letters to show that the retiring and new Liberal Democrat candidates are poles apart on the matter.

The Green Party admires the effort and energy BRAiD has invested into their campaign and commends your paper for the space given to it in recent issues.

The jobs versus environment debate is a very complex one and there are aspects that are still unclear. There is more conjecture than confirmed fact in the case.

In our view, this is a vivid instance of the inadequacy of the current planning procedures, which will not be improved by the recent National Planning Policy Framework of the Tory/Lib Dem Coalition.

A public inquiry testing all views (yes, even online petitions) is the only democratic path to a decision.
