SIR – In response to Arthur Arnold’s letter (T&A, March, 17) criticising me for leading a campaign against the proposed closure of Shipley Delivery Office – would he rather nobody did anything and Royal Mail just closes three local delivery offices as planned? We can at least try to do something!

I have suggested alternatives that would be in the interests of their customers, but would also save them money, for example allowing people to collect undelivered parcels from local post offices without an extortionate additional charge or keep a delivery point in Shipley which could serve a wider surrounding area. Almost 500 items of mail are collected each week from the Shipley office alone, so to have to travel to Bradford would be a massive inconvenience for a lot of people. Royal Mail should listen to their customers and think again.
