SIR – It would be hard to find a more tasteless “enticement” to the City Park opening day than that demonstrated by the water-squirting poseur (T&A, March 8).

What on earth is the Council thinking of by spending goodness-knows-how-much more money, on top of the millions already spent on the park, to fund such a display?

This could be the ideal opportunity to show Bradford, at last, in a manner commensurate with the remaining iconic buildings, and do justice to the fountains in the way that they deserve.

I hope there are still some councillors with the good taste to remove such acts before the opening day (and perhaps re-scrutinise and replace some of the other proposed incongruous-sounding features).

Let it be the good family outing that it should be, and one of which the city can be proud enough to show other cities that Bradford can eventually get something right, without cringe-making tackiness.
