After seeing Councillor Val Slater just the other week declare war on those who want to keep the green field sites green and not be concreted over – regardless of the massive support for saving green field sites – this week another story raises the question, just who are the councillors representing?

We now have Ian Greenwood and David Green coming out saying that extending parking charges in the city centre will have little effect on the visitors.

This is despite huge opposition to these plans from the retailers that still exist in the city centre.

It is then exposed that £110,000 worth of parking meters have been purchased before consultation of this move was finalised, so the decision, it seems, had already been made, regardless of the opposition to it.

These councillors certainly don’t appear to be representing the Bradford people, because I’m yet to meet anyone who thinks parking charges wherever there is a piece of tarmac is a good idea.

Let’s not forget all this is also signed off by an unelected Council executive on a massive salary, who appears answerable to nobody.

There is still the question over parking charges in areas such as Bingley, Keighley, Ilkley, etc to be answered, but looking at recent developments, it wouldn’t suprise me if the parking meters for these areas have been bought already, regardless of the electorates views on the matter.
