SIR – Val Summerscales (pictured), of Bradford Chamber of Trade, has fired a blast at councillors, planners and Westfield for making Bradford in parts a retail desert (T&A, February 10). Quite right too!
Only about two weeks ago the T&A reported that City centre manager Bob Parker and Councillor Doreen Lee were discussing which type of ice cream vendor would be suitable for the park, and that if we were having balloons, we must have the best balloons.
They might like to ponder that a retail desert means a desert of shoppers, so who is going to buy ice cream or balloons in the City Park? And more to the point, who cares?
Time to get their priorities right by rejuvenating Bradford, which was known in the past as “the wool capital”, and proudly so!
The wool may have gone but Bradford is still here!
