SIR - All the hype about the new seat belt and seating laws for children seems to have fallen on deaf ears.

What is wrong with some people? Don't they feel laws are there to follow and for the good of all?

I was horrified to see three young children, all under the age of ten, standing up on the back and front seats of a people carrier while the mother was holding a baby in her arms in the back, with no seat belt herself, and the male driver on the phone while driving on a 40mph road at speed.

When are these people going to learn? Don't they care what happens to these children if the car crashes?

How many children must get injured before any one take notice?

I'm sure sensible drivers will join me in saying something must be done before it's too late and someone gets hurt.

Make the fines bigger, ban persistent offenders from carrying children in the cars, send them back to driving school. Do something, anything.
