SIR – Some of your readers are economical in the choice of ‘facts’ to support the content of their letters.
First, Christopher Hindle (T&A, December 24) in his bashing of his own country’s and America’s handling of the banks does not mention that this has led to a downgrading of the latter’s credit-worthiness but not of ours.
Secondly, David Rhodes (T&A, December 30) conveniently omits to mention that an equal number of businessmen have supported Cameron’s stance on the latest proposed EU treaty.
Being at the heart of Europe did not prevent Blair reducing our rebate in exchange for a reorganisation of CAP, on which France reneged as it always does on policies against its interests.
The EU is ruled by Germany, supported by its puppet France. Our being at the heart makes no difference. As to three million jobs being jeopardised by our withdrawal, he is just reiterating Blair’s unsubstantiated and EU-bolstered drivel.
