SIR – On the T&A Letters page (November 30) I said, regarding the Military Wives choir: “The series was very moving with laughter and tears so when it is repeated make sure you have a handkerchief”.

Well, just recently, it was repeated and I should have taken my own advice. The song the choir sang at the Festival of Remembrance was released as a single and the Military Wives marched to the top of the charts, and Wherever You Are became the coveted Christmas No 1 with 556,000 copies sold in the week before Christmas.

The proceeds are being donated to the Royal British Legion and the Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association.

Who would have thought that the original choir of 41 could, nine months later, be top of the pops?

Gareth Malone, who created the choir, must surely be in line for some appropriate honour for what he and the wives have achieved, and perhaps through this, they have given the military wives a long overdue voice.

They have shown us that one of life’s greatest gifts is the love which brings hearts together and this is so well reflected in the song Wherever You Are.
