SIR – There was an article in the T&A (October 10) headed “The area is bursting at the seams”, describing how certain parts of Bradford have people living in cramped conditions.

There was mention of many terraced houses with an average of four children among the occupants, and even a family including their nine children living in a two-bedroom house.

While there must be some sympathy for those involved, other questions surely need to be asked.

Most people in this country would probably restrict the number of children to both what they could afford, and what they could comfortably accommodate.

It seems that some take none of these issues into account, and simply expect the State to provide the necessary resources for whatever their needs might be. Perhaps a little more personal responsibility wouldn't go amiss in some of these cases, rather than expecting other taxpayers to contribute?
