SIR – Having travelled from York to encourage my son and his friends’ run for charity around Bradford, it was an enthusiastic crowd that gathered in Peel Park to cheer on the runners at the finishing line.

They had travelled up from London, which, for the female friends at least, was their first taste of Yorkshire.

So how embarrassing it was for Bradford when it came to the women’s presentation. It became such a shambolic presentation with delay after delay, culminating in the announcer asking the second-fastest woman to step forward for her trophy, only to be told the name announced by the presenter was, in fact, a man!

That became the last straw for the presenter who quickly decided that enough was enough and announced no further women’s presentations would be made at the event.

Again another disappointment for one of my son’s female friends as she had finished fourth in the open event.

I only hope she receives her just reward in the post as promised.

Andy Ross, leisure programmes manager, Bradford City Council, said: “We’re very sorry that Mr Muszanskyj was disappointed with the presentation ceremony in Lister Park.

“Karol Sobolewski was automatically included in the women’s results as Mr Sobolewski incorrectly registered himself as female via the online entry booking system.

“The presentation delays were caused by the onsite computer crashing shortly before the ceremony was due to start, for which we can only apologise.

“Please rest assured that all prizes which were not awarded on the day have been posted to the winners.”
