SIR – History is being made right now in Parliament. Tory MPs such as Philip Davies, Kris Hopkins, Julian Smith and Lib Dem David Ward have voted to wreck the NHS. 2011 will become an infamous year in our history.

How do we know? Andrew Lansley, Secretary of State for Health, boasted at the Tory party conference that by 2014, 50,000 patients with chronic conditions will have vouchers to get treatment via an insurance scheme. This means about 500 people from Bradford will be affected.

This is the failed US-style system of Health Service – very expensive and inefficient. Insurance firms, not doctors nor patients will be at heart of new system, which will be run in the interests of the Tories’ City pals.

Voters won’t forget this breach of Cameron’s repeated promises: “We are the party to be trusted on the NHS,” and “There will be no top-down re-organisation of the NHS”. His U-turn beats Clegg’s.
