SIR – It is with interest I read another article about Richard Threlfall’s Ilkley Pool Group (T&A, October 4).

They are making a lot of noise about what they want – a new indoor pool for Ilkley. But so far we have not heard how it is going to be paid for.

The group will probably apply to this and that body for the cash to carry out the scheme. Will this include Bradford Council having to contribute funds?

The Council have already made improvements to the lido, at a cost to taxpayers.

In the last year, Bradford has had to close three swimming pools due to the Conservative-led coalition’s cutbacks on council spending.

Ilkley at the moment has an adequate swimming pool for its townspeople to use. If it wants something bigger or better, they should wait until times are better, or pay for it themselves by public contributions.
