SIR – On behalf of the members of The Eccleshill Local History Group, I wish to express our anger and disappointment at Bradford Council’s peculiar and unwarranted decision to remove the working horses from their home at Eccleshill’s Industrial Museum.

It is very difficult to understand how and why such decisions are arrived at.

An obvious reason for protest at this proposal is the one that has been aired frequently by many voices that say children will be the main sufferers.

To youngsters, the horses are surely the main attraction – not the vintage vehicles or the looms, but the horses, the ever-present Clydesdale horses seen these days only at establishments like The Industrial Museum.

Our organisation exists for the maintenance of past times and preservation of memorabilia. We photograph, write and record for the benefit of present and future generations.

We urge the members of our Council to have a rethink and act in the same way, thus preserving at Eccleshill Museum these unique living creatures for the benefit of Bradfordians and all who visit the museum. Let our councillors act wisely, and so earn the gratitude of thousands of people both now and in the future.

Frank Dickinson, secretary, Eccleshill Local History Group, Nab Wood Crescent, Shipley.
