Sir - In reply to Graham Hoyle,"What are motorbikes all about?" (T&A, September 12), bikers: l Go on pet food runs, having donated or collected food for cash-struck dog and cat shelters.

l Donate Easter eggs and ride to Bradford's Gingerbread group, giving support to single parents.

l Ride through ice and snow to give Christmas presents to underprivileged children.

l Go to the children's hospice and spend time with dying children (they love the sound of the engines) l Go on runs to donate their blood.

l Are one of the biggest donators to Air Ambulance groups and go annually to refresh their first aid training on being "first at the scene of an accident".

I could go on, Mr Hoyle, but I do know there are bikers out there who give others a bad name.

But next time you think bike, just think, if you ever need blood, are helped in an accident or need an Air Ambulance, a biker may have saved your life.

By the way, I am not someone who has a leather fetish. I am a town councillor and deputy mayor who helps them raise funds.
