SIR – Re the letter from Philip Marks (T&A, July 28), the practise of operating a two-tier pricing system when selling drinks has been taking place in many local golf clubs for a number of years.

You pay £25/£30 for a round of golf, then they expect you to pay more for your beer than the members.

As Mr Marks says in relation to local cricket clubs, when you paid golf green fees, you were regarded as a member for the day. At present when all clubs are looking for more income, you would think they would be encouraging visitors.

Would it not be a better policy to make the drinks cheaper for the visitor than the member or offer them a free pint with their green fees?

I am also a member of Undercliffe CC as well as Bradford Moor Golf Club. I am happy to say that both clubs have a one-price drinks policy.
