Sir – Re ‘It’s a bit fishy in the yellow line of duty’ (T&A, July 27).

The police force, I have to say, are a rule unto themselves. Be it parking in bus stops, loading bays, pay-and-display spots, outside the courts or wherever, they take the biscuit.

I really think we should question them over this. Most councils instruct their traffic enforcement officers to leave the ‘blue light’ services alone.

But if a liveried company van has to pay to park, then why not a police vehicle if they are attending a court or, as I often witness, merely going to a cash machine?

Of course, if the blue light services are attending a scene of crime, responding to a medical emergency or whatever, then yes, expecting to pay to park or abide by the law is exempted.

However there comes a point where that ‘right’ is abused.

I wonder if anybody from the force will bother to reply?
