SIR – I felt I had to write in with my support to Odele Ayres’s campaign to reduce speeding traffic on Bradford Road.

I live just off this road (further up towards Five Lane Ends) and cannot believe the horrendous speeds at which the majority of people travel up and down this highway.

The location of the top of our road (Springfield Place) is just up from the local convenience store, directly on a blind bend.

Despite the awkwardness and potential danger of this location, vehicles travelling along this part of the carriageway (in either direction) pay little or no regard to the 30mph speed limit.

There have been more occasions than I would like to think of when we’ve experienced a near miss as we’ve attempted to legitimately and carefully pull out of our road, be it that we’re turning right or left.

The council does have a proposed traffic-calming scheme planned, details of which were confirmed to me by MP David Ward’s office, after I contacted him in despair about the problems.

But, as with a lot of council projects, these never happen immediately, and I’m not overly optimistic that additional signage and speed tables will fully address the speeding issue.
