I have had a lovely half term off work this week, and have not had to leave Bradford to be entertained and challenged.
I was treated to a ticket to see Swan Lake on Ice at the Alhambra for my birthday and it was the best present! It was a truly breathtaking performance.
I also had the privilege to observe, while swimming at my gym in Thornbury, how an older white man interacted with a young British Muslim man and two older Muslim ladies.
I watched the man attempting to race the younger one and they were having a great time, laughing and joking.
The older gentlemen got out and came to have a word with the ladies in the Jacuzzi with me. He made a joke about them not sitting around all day and they told me what a lovely, friendly man he was.
He then said he was going to the Sikh temple to attend the funeral of a fellow gym member. I remarked how lovely it was for us all to get along, regardless of culture or background and they agreed.
I left the gym feeling better for the experience of just how wonderful racial harmony is and that it does exist in the Bradford I am proud of.
