SIR – It was interesting to read Bradford Council chief executive Tony Reeves lambasting the Government for cutting resources and wanting to dismantle the state (T&A, January 21).

This from a man who appears unwilling to reduce his salary, suggested by the communities secretary; who has been part of an organisation that has ignored residents’ views on the Odeon; who thinks that City Park will produce 2.2m visitors; and who seems reluctant to give details of Bradford Council posts.

Before criticising the Government for taking the necessary actions to sort out the shambles left by the spendthrift Labour administration, perhaps Mr Reeves could first consider whether some of his own actions have been as a result of what Bradfordians actually wanted, or as a result of what they all wished to foist upon us?

Finally, and possibly most importantly, can we be told why permission was given to demolish the Broadway shops without a cast-iron guarantee being in place for their replacement within an agreed timescale?

In view of this debacle, can we also be told why heads have not rolled as it has helped to make our city a national laughing stock?
