SIR – While I agree with the comments from Keith Rayner (Letters, January 18), there is a problem where potholes have not been cleaned up properly.
Rough edges where loose tarmac is should be taken back to a solid fixed area of tarmac and bonded with tar to stop further deterioration of the surounding area, as has happened at several pothole sites from last year’s bad winter in Birkenshaw.
Cheapest is not always the best option.
