SIR – Once again the poor are the main target for the Government.

Now they want to make supermarkets and pubs have a minimum price on drinks.

Most people nowadays can’t even afford to go to the pub, and are content to drink at home. Not everyone is a raving drunk and many people can enjoy a quiet drink at home.

I suspect most people are ruled by their finances and have a limited amount they can spend on drinks. This, of course, will not help the ailing pubs struggling to make a living.

As usual, the innocent are being penalised.

The main problem, I feel, is the young people who binge drink, and not the middle aged or pensioners who will pay the price.

The Government must be able to solve the youth binge drinking problem. Make it a legal age of 21 before anyone can buy alcohol.

Surely someone must be able to come up with a solution, or is this just another excuse to extract more money from an even poorer public.
