SIR – I fully share the frustration of Saltaire traders with the ridiculous parking restrictions on Gordon Terrace (T&A, November 18).
These draconian restrictions serve no purpose at all, yet are routinely enforced by the Council. The result is a loss of trade for our local businesses, already struggling with the worst economic downturn for decades, and inconvenience for local residents.
Fourteen months ago, I wrote to officers to challenge the logic of these parking restrictions. Nothing was done.
Shipley’s Green councillors are now pressing for the Council to rescind these restrictions as part of the imminent alterations to the roundabout.
We hope that the roundabout works will also deliver other improvements to Gordon Terrace, such as safer pedestrian crossings and cycle parking (something else that we have sought for a long time).
Councillor Kevin Warnes (Green, Shipley Ward), Moorhead Terrace, Shipley
