SIR – In reply to D Rhodes (On a road to ruin, Letters, November 18), doesn’t he realise how cheap Bradford taxis are, and how hard it is for drivers to make a good living?

I have found every taxi driver here friendly and helpful. If someone works for a company and works a bank holiday, they usually get enhanced pay.

If a taxi driver works a bank holiday, he is also entitled to enhanced pay, hence Tariff Two – time-and-a-half.

All taxi drivers are self-employed. They have to pay to use the circuit, their car, tax, insurance and diesel – and you quibble when they are entitled to a bit extra.

I have come from Kent – their taxi charges are as follows (bearing in mind this was three years ago): starting fee £2.60; after midnight – time-and-a-half; five people in a taxi or private hire, time-and-a-half and double time after midnight; all bank holidays – time-and-a-half all day, double time after midnight.

So all you Bradfordians, stop complaining – this is a good city, people are nice, prices are cheap, public transport is great as I use it all the time, so enjoy.
