SIR – Regarding the regeneration of our fair city, this will not be easy in the current climate.

Businesses in other towns and cities are also struggling, as are the cities themselves.

Trying to play catch up or to try to emulate others who are failing would be a mistake.

The only solution for Bradford would be to do what Bradford has done in the past, and that is to lead others. Show others how Bradford is ahead of the pack, not lagging behind.

How do we do this? By thinking differently to others. If we think the same, we will be the same.

How do we attract shoppers? By giving them all the stores that they want.

But how do we attract the stores? They didn’t want to come to the Westfield centre, which was why the projected build was postponed.

The answer is to make Bradford an attractive proposition to Westfield and the stores that could be in the complex.

Incorporate things that other shopping centres don’t have, but will want once they see what Bradford has done.

Think outside the box.
